Speaking Schedule

View the monthly High Council speaking rotation and manage ward assignments and topics from the Admin Hub.

The High Council Speaking Schedule page (/leader/speaking) is a read-only calendar that shows which High Councilor is assigned to speak at which ward each month, along with the monthly topic. Managing assignments and topics is done from the Admin Hub at /leader/admin?tab=speaking.

Viewing the speaking schedule requires an authenticated leader account. Managing assignments requires the MANAGE_SPEAKING_SCHEDULE permission.

Viewing the Speaking Schedule

Navigate to /leader/speaking. The page heading reads High Council Speaking Schedule. A toggle in the top-right corner switches between Month View and Full Year.

Month View

Month View is the default. It shows assignments for a single month at a time.

Navigating by month

Use the left chevron () and right chevron () buttons next to the current month and year label (for example, JUNE 2026) to move backward or forward one month. When you navigate past December the year increments automatically; navigating before January decrements it.

Topic card

If a topic has been set for the current month, a card appears above the assignment grid displaying:

  • The topic text as a large heading.
  • The reference material (scripture or other source) below the topic, preceded by a book icon.

If no topic has been set, the card shows No topic set.

Assignment cards

Below the topic card, the page renders a responsive grid of cards — one card per High Councilor who has a ward assignment that month. Each card shows:

  • A ward badge identifying the ward (for example, 3rd Ward).
  • The High Councilor's full name.

Cards are sorted by ward. If no assignments exist for the selected month, a placeholder message reads No speaking assignments for this month.

Not Speaking This Month

When at least one High Councilor has an assignment, a section labeled Not Speaking This Month appears below the grid. It lists, as outline badges, the names of all High Councilors who have no ward assignment for that month.

Full Year View

Click Full Year to switch to the year view. This view displays a scrollable table where:

AxisContent
RowsOne row per High Councilor
ColumnsTwelve month columns (Jan – Dec), abbreviated

Each cell shows the ward number (for example, 3) if that High Councilor has an assignment for that month, or a dim dot () if they are unassigned. The High Councilor column is sticky so names remain visible when scrolling horizontally.

The year displayed in Full Year view is the same year that was active when you were last in Month View. To view a different year, switch to Month View, navigate to a month in the desired year, and then switch back to Full Year.

Managing the Speaking Schedule (Admin Hub)

Navigate to /leader/admin?tab=speaking to access the speaking management tools. This tab contains two sections: Speaking Topics and Ward Schedule.

Both sections require the MANAGE_SPEAKING_SCHEDULE permission. If the tab is not visible, contact your stake clerk or system administrator.

Year Navigation

Both sections share the same year selector. Use the left chevron and right chevron buttons flanking the year dropdown, or click the dropdown directly to jump to a specific year. The available range spans two years before and two years after the current year. Changing the year reloads both sections simultaneously.

Speaking Topics

The Speaking Topics section lists all twelve months in a grid with the following columns:

ColumnDescription
MonthA colored status circle with the abbreviated month name, the full month name, and a status subtext
TopicA text input for the speaking topic
Reference MaterialA text input for a scripture or other reference source
StatusA badge reflecting the current state of the row
(action)A Save or Edit button

Topic status values

StatusBadge colorMeaning
PlannedGreenA topic has been saved for this month. Inputs are locked.
UnsavedAmberThe topic has been edited locally but not yet saved.
EmptyRedNo topic has been set or edited for this month.

Adding or editing a topic

Find the row for the month you want to update. An Empty row has no topic yet; a Planned row has a saved topic.

If the row status is Planned, the inputs are disabled. Click the Edit button on the right side of the row to unlock them. The status changes to Unsaved.

Type the speaking topic in the Topic field (placeholder: Add topic…). Optionally enter a scripture passage or other source in the Reference Material field (placeholder: Add reference material…).

Click Save on the right side of the row. The status badge changes to Planned and the inputs lock again. A Topic saved. toast confirms success.

The Save button is disabled until the Topic field contains at least one non-whitespace character. The Reference Material field is optional.

Saving all unsaved topics at once

If you have edited topics across multiple months without saving each individually, click Save All Changes in the bottom-right corner of the section. This submits all rows currently in Unsaved status in a single operation. An All changes saved. toast confirms success. If any individual save fails, the failed rows remain in Unsaved state and an error toast reports the count.

Ward Schedule

The Ward Schedule section displays a table for assigning High Councilors to wards by month.

Table layout

AxisContent
RowsOne row per High Councilor (with avatar and name, sticky left column)
ColumnsTwelve month columns (Jan – Dec, abbreviated) plus a trailing actions column

Each cell in the grid represents one High Councilor for one month. A colored badge showing the ward number (for example, 5) appears when an assignment exists; a dim dash () appears when no ward is assigned.

Assigning or changing a ward for a cell

Click any cell in the schedule grid. The cell activates and a dropdown opens immediately, showing all wards in the stake plus a — None option at the top.

Choose a ward from the list. The dropdown closes and the assignment is saved automatically. A Schedule updated. toast confirms success.

To clear an existing assignment, click the cell and select — None from the top of the dropdown. The cell reverts to a dim dash.

Clearing an entire month

Each month column header includes a small X button beneath the abbreviated month label. Clicking it opens a confirmation dialog:

Clear all [Month] assignments? This will remove every ward assignment for [Month] [Year]. This cannot be undone.

Click Clear to proceed or Cancel to abort. A Month cleared. toast confirms success.

Clearing all assignments for a High Councilor

Each High Councilor row has a trash icon button on the far right. Clicking it opens a confirmation dialog:

Clear all assignments for [Name]? This will remove every ward assignment for [Name] in [Year]. This cannot be undone.

Click Clear to proceed or Cancel to abort. A Schedule cleared. toast confirms success.

Clearing a month or a High Councilor's assignments for the year cannot be undone from within the portal. Assignments must be re-entered manually afterward.
