Submit a Calling Proposal
Start a new calling recommendation, release, or combined calling-and-release proposal from the Submit page.
The Submit page (/leader/callings/submit) is where stake leaders create new calling recommendations and releases. Submissions require the SUBMIT_CALLING_PROPOSALS permission.
Choosing a Submission Type
Before filling in any fields, select which type of proposal you are submitting by clicking one of three option tiles at the top of the page:
New Calling
Recommend a member for a new calling. Displays the Calling Recommendation form only.
Release Only
Release one or more members from their current callings. Displays one or more Release cards. No calling recommendation is included.
Calling + Release
Submit a calling recommendation and one or more releases in a single submission. Both form sections are shown.
The selected type determines which form sections appear and how proposals enter the pipeline.
Calling Recommendation Fields
This section appears when the submission type is New Calling or Calling + Release.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Yes | First name of the member being recommended |
| Last Name | Yes | Last name of the member being recommended |
| Spouse's First Name | No | Optional; include when relevant to the calling |
| Ward | Yes | Select from the dropdown. Bishops have their ward pre-filled and locked — the field cannot be changed |
| Calling / Assignment | Yes | Select from a preset list; choose Other to type a custom calling title |
| Notes | No | Free-text field for any additional context; maximum 500 characters |
There is no Submitter field on this form. The portal records the submitter automatically from your logged-in account. Any value typed in that field in an older version of the form would have been ignored by the server, which always overwrites the submitter with the authenticated user's ID.
Release Fields
This section appears when the submission type is Release Only or Calling + Release. At least one release card is required.
Each release card collects:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Yes | First name of the member being released |
| Last Name | Yes | Last name of the member being released |
| Spouse's First Name | No | Optional |
| Ward | Yes | Select from the dropdown. Bishops have their ward pre-filled and locked |
| Calling Being Released | Yes | Select from a preset list; choose Other to type a custom calling title |
Click Add another release to add additional release cards to the same submission. Each card is labeled Release One, Release Two, and so on. Cards can be removed with the Remove button unless the submission type is Release Only and only one card remains (at least one release is always required).
The Calling Dropdown
The calling / assignment dropdown list changes based on whether a ward is selected:
- No ward selected — shows stake-level callings (Stake High Councilor, Stake Executive Secretary, Stake Clerk, Stake Sunday School positions, Stake Relief Society positions, Stake Primary positions, Other).
- Ward selected — shows ward-level callings (Bishop, Bishopric First Counselor, Bishopric Second Counselor, Ward Executive Secretary, Ward Assistant Executive Secretary, Ward Clerk, Ward Assistant Clerk, Elders Quorum President, Elders Quorum First Counselor, Elders Quorum Second Counselor, Other).
Selecting Other from either list dismisses the dropdown and displays a free-text input where you can type any calling title. Click the X button next to the input to return to the dropdown.
Duplicate Detection
The form checks the active Kanban board in real time. If an identical proposal — same first name, last name, ward, and calling — already exists in the pipeline, a warning banner appears on the relevant form section. You can still submit; the warning is advisory only.
Submission Summary
A sticky sidebar on the right (bottom on mobile) displays a live summary of everything you have entered. It shows the submission type badge, the calling recommendation details (name, ward, calling), and each release entry. Each section shows a green Complete indicator when all required fields are filled or an amber Incomplete indicator with a count of remaining required fields.
The Submit for Review button is located in this sidebar. The Cancel button returns you to /leader/calling-system without saving.
Submitting
When all required fields are complete, click Submit for Review. The button label changes to Submitting… while the request is in progress. Each proposal (the calling recommendation and each release) is sent as a separate API request; all are submitted together when you click the button.
If submission fails, an error toast appears and the form remains open so you can correct the issue and try again.
After Submission
On success, a confirmation screen lists every proposal created:
- Calling — John Doe → Bishop (Riverside Ward)
- Release — Jane Smith → Elders Quorum President (Riverside Ward)
Two buttons appear:
- View on Board — navigates to
/leader/calling-systemto see the proposals on the Kanban board. - Submit Another — resets the form to start a new submission without leaving the page.
How Proposals Enter the Pipeline
The submission type controls where each proposal begins in the workflow:
New Calling (Calling Recommendation)
Enters at SP Approval (stage 0). Stake Presidency members approve it on the Review page before it advances.
Release
Skips SP Approval and HC Approval entirely. Enters directly at Interview (stage 2). Releases also skip the Set Apart stage later in the pipeline.
A Calling + Release submission creates two separate proposals that travel through the pipeline independently. The calling recommendation starts at SP Approval; the release starts at Interview.
